Amazing Little MCU Board with Wifi
These things would be better called MCU controller board with built in wifi. The Wifi Module thing kindof implies that you need another arduino to drive it. NOT SO. They have an 80 MHz 32 bit processor on them. You can pull up the Arduino IDE and select Generic ESP8366 and then you can program them in C++ like any other arduino. You will need a USB to TTL Serial converter and a few wiring jumpers to program it. I have one running a web server right now. One gripe is that these are not 4MB, but rather 4 M-bit or 512K flash, but if you really need to, you can desolder the 512K flash and replace it with a real 4MB 32Mbit flash from the 25Q family. Also, they are 3.3V and not 5V. If you forget, they will blow out.

not recommended for beginners
This is a very solid product but I would not recommend it do beginners, the setup and execution are very advanced.
